Equiticity: Rooted, Resilient, & Rising

Dear Equiticity Community:

Equiticity: Rooted, Resilient, & Rising is more than a campaign theme. This name reflects the intersecting stories of our communities, our movement, and our future.

We are rooted in the wisdom in our community, our lived experiences, and the generations of leadership that have always inherently known what justice feels like. We are resilient because our communities have endured sustained disinvestment, displacement, and inequity, and we still dream, organize, and lead. Today, together, we are rising, transforming streets into safe and vibrant corridors, neighbors into decision-makers, and inequity into equity.

This year, your support continues to fuel our collective power. Power for communities to shape our own mobility, health, and economic futures. Power to demand racially equitable systems that contribute to transforming our communities. Power to rise.

Investing in The Equiticity Racial Equity Movement helps support our work, including:

  • The Go Hub: A Community Mobility Center, our vision for a neighborhood mobility hub, integrating physical infrastructure and social infrastructure to increase mobility in two Chicago neighborhoods - North Lawndale on the Westside and Bronzeville on the Southside.
  • BikeForce, a workforce development program focused on introducing our community's youth to emerging technologies, including e-bikes, e-scooters, battery systems, and electric motors, and preparing them for further education and training.
  • Community Mobility Rituals, community bicycle rides, neighborhood walking tours, public transit excursions, group scooter rolls, and open street festivals, all designed to increase social cohesion and collective efficacy, as tools to increase mobility and reduce violence at the neighborhood level.
  • Research and Advocacy, research conducted with university and local partners that underpins our advocacy strategies, executed in collaboration with a network of partner organizations in Chicago and across the US.

When you give to Equiticity, you are investing in a future that is:

  • Racially Equitable
  • Community-owned
  • Justice-centered
  • Rooted. Resilient. Rising.

What happens when we turn on the Power, and Equity moves like electricity through our homes, streets, neighborhoods, and cities?

What systems will we transform? What outcomes will we achieve? What futures will this create? What leaders will we nurture?

For the past eight years, Equiticity has been imagining and creating the answers to these questions. We are a racial equity movement, operationalizing racial equity by harnessing our collective power through research, advocacy, programs, Community Mobility Rituals, and social enterprises. We remain rooted and resilient in advancing racial equity by working at the intersection of mobility justice, environmental justice, and public health.

Equiticity’s vision is a mid- to large-size U.S. city where racial equity is fully integrated at the policy and legislative levels into every function, department, resource, and budget associated with the city’s operations, services, and programs. We envision Equiticity transforming one city into a global model that normalizes, prioritizes, and operationalizes a comprehensive commitment to racial equity. This isn’t just a lofty goal, it’s a tangible operational framework that leads to an equitable flow of resources that reduce violence, improve health outcomes, create jobs, and ultimately make our neighborhoods and cities more liveable for Black, Brown, and Indigenous people.

Please join our racial equity movement by investing today and inviting your network to do the same.

Thank you for your generous support of our racial equity movement.

May our collective journey to freedom continue.

Warm regards,

Oboi
